Hi! So, I've been redesigning.

Yes, I know the archives page, etc. page, and comments don't match yet. I'm working on it.

Any other comments are welcome. Knowing how it looks on other computers is helpful. I wrote it in Windows XP, using Firefox 1.0 and IE 6.0, looking at a 1024 x 768 monitor. If you have something different, tell me how it is. Thanks!

PS: Hey look, I finally managed to make a web design without dragons. How odd.

PPS: The tagline is from Clifford Geertz in The Interpretation of Cultures: "Man is an animal, suspended in webs of significance that he himself has spun..."

PPPS: The picture is the one that I was talking about taking in this post.

At this school I always complain about the hill. Sure, schools with hills look pretty in the viewbooks, but then you get there and realize there's this massive thing you have to climb up every day. Pretty, sure, but such a pain.

But I went home for break and had a complete meltdown one night, and I felt so pent up, looking out across my overdeveloped suburban neighborhood, with the full moon hanging over it inexplicably, like a visitor to a foreign land. It occurred to me then that there was no way to get any closer to it, no hill like a giant staircase to the sky, just this ratmaze of houses everywhere and no way to climb over them and get to the real world above. It occurred to me then that I could walk around this flat flat town for hours and not run off my nervous energy. It was a world that could conquer me but not comfort me.

At least this world can do both.
